About Starve.io

The name states the rule: your real enemy here isn't other players but hunger and cold. Two bars on screen drain constantly, and if either empties you die.

You light a fire against the cold and find and cook food against hunger. Since the fire eats wood, gathering never really stops.

The resources you collect craft better axes, picks and armour. As your gear improves you can push into colder regions and reach better materials.

Why kids like this game

Progress reads clearly: moving from a stone axe to an iron one is a visible jump. Each run takes you a little further out.

Yes. The art style is simple and colourful, with no blood and nothing uncomfortable. It runs in the browser.

1. Move with WASD or the arrow keys.
2. Aim with the mouse and click to strike.
3. Gather resources from trees and rocks.
4. Light a fire and stay near it to warm up.
5. Feed the fire wood so it doesn't die.
6. Find food and cook it on the fire.

• Base beside the fire: staying gathered around it beats spreading your things far apart.
