What kind of game is Gacha Life?

Character design sits at the centre. Hair, eyes, clothing, accessories, expressions and poses are chosen separately, and you set every colour yourself. Once a character is finished you move into Studio, place several characters in the same frame, add a background and write speech bubbles for a short scene.

There are also areas to walk through and characters to meet. Mini-games hand out Gems, and those Gems unlock new clothes and props. Someone with no gaming background can work out the menus within five minutes.

Why kids enjoy it

Nothing here can be lost. You reshape a character as often as you like and start over whenever a design stops working. Naming your own characters, writing a story for them and then seeing them side by side feels genuinely rewarding.
