Real Fishing is a fishing simulator where you cast a line on everything from rivers and lakes to oceans and far-off waters. You pick the right tackle and wait patiently to catch hundreds of fish species, and it's free to play in your browser.

About Real Fishing

You choose a fishing spot on the map, and when you arrive you set up the rod, reel, line and bait yourself. You cast the line wherever you like on the water, and the echo sounder in the bottom left corner shows the depth. Fish usually bite faster in deeper spots.

When a fish takes the bait you hear a bell, and you start reeling in with the reel button. Rushing is costly here: if the load meter gets close to red, the line can snap. Balancing your tackle matters too, because the line needs to be weaker than the rod so the rod doesn't break. Big catches like sharks and crocodiles only come ashore with good tackle.

Why do kids love this game?

You never know what each cast will bring, sometimes a small fish and sometimes a giant catfish. Quests, tournaments and a collection of more than 200 species give you goals to chase for a long time.

Is this game safe for kids?

The game itself is calm and all about fishing. There is a chat section for talking with other players, though, so it's best for younger kids to play with a grown-up nearby and to know not to share personal information with strangers.

1. On the main screen, press the go fishing button.
2. Pick a lake, river or sea spot on the map.
3. Choose your rod, reel, line and bait to set up your tackle.
4. Cast the line to any spot on the water and check the depth on the echo sounder.
5. When the bell rings, reel in with the reel button or the Space key.
6. Watch the load meter, and ease off when it nears red.
7. Complete quests with your catches and buy better tackle.

• Try deep spots: where the echo sounder shows more depth, fish usually bite sooner.
• Keep the line weaker: if the line is stronger than the rod, a big fish breaks the rod, but if the line snaps, the rod survives.
• Pause the pull: when the meter rises, waiting a few seconds lets the fish tire and keeps the line intact.
• Change bait to match the water: each water has fish that like different bait, so don't expect the same result everywhere.
• Pick spots by quest: heading to the water where the quest species lives is much faster than casting at random.
