Trap the cat

Trap the Cat is a strategy puzzle where you try to corner a clever cat moving across a hexagonal grid and prevent its escape. After each move, the cat picks the smartest exit; you need to close the right cells to box it in.

How to play Trap the Cat

Some cells on the hexagonal grid are already closed. You and the cat take turns. Each click closes a cell; then the cat takes a step. When all neighboring cells are closed, the cat is trapped and you win. But if the cat reaches the edge of the grid, it escapes and you lose.

There's no time limit, but every move needs careful thought. The cat calculates which direction has the fewest obstacles — developing that intuition is what makes the strategy deep.

Why is it addictive?

Each round takes 1–2 minutes. When you lose, it's easy to see which move went wrong — that makes retrying immediately very tempting. The satisfaction of cornering the cat is one of the best moments in the game.

Is it safe?

Completely safe. Suitable for ages 7 and up.

1. The cat starts on an open cell of the hexagonal grid.
2. Click a cell to close it; then the cat moves toward its best escape.
3. Surround the cat with closed cells from all directions to win.
4. If the cat reaches the edge of the grid, it escapes and you lose.
5. Think carefully before every move — the cat is smart.

• Close in a circle: try to keep the cat in the center; pushing it to the edge makes escape easier.
• Cut the bridges: long chains of open cells are the cat's main escape routes — cut those off.
• Keep it away from the edge: the closer the cat gets to the border, the higher the chance of escape; corner it in the middle.
• React to the cat's last move: the cat tells you where it's heading — your next move should block that direction.
